DT Share: Selfies

A double page LO from me today with the super lovely Love always line from Cocoa Vanilla.

I've kept my page intentionally simple and used black cardstock for a change to provide a striking contrast to the super lovely 'Frolic' paper.

I've used washi tape and that wood veneer banner flag to draw the viewer's eye across the page. and embellished in three places to provide resting points for the eye. Look at that wee guy he starts full time school next week I am going to miss him like crazy!

The frolic paper comes black and white and I've used the Kaisermists and a fine paint brush to add colour to some of the leaves and flowers, I tried to keep it fairly random. I dipped my brush in a little water to add some more colour variation in places.

Additional supplies: Cocoa Vanilla Love Always: Alphabet Stickers, Die Cut Ephemera, Accessory Stickers, Puffy Stickers, and Twin Set and Lovely Things Patterned Papers,  Kaisermists: Lime Green, Pink and Peach.

Gallery Pick

I'm feeling just a little jealous looking at Lisa Jane's page about her trip to Japan- that's been a lifelong dream trip for me! If I ever do get to take it I hope I remember to take inspiration from Lisa Jane's page. I love the use of ephemera in the form of boarding passes from the plane. And the way she's combined the chipboard elements with the map to show the path of their journey. The page is super full of fun and colourful elements which add to the sense of an adventure. And the chevron patterns on the right hand side give the idea of movement in a very fun way. Great page Lisa Jane thanks so much for sharing it with us in the Mystical Gallery.

DT Share: Love You

Just a quick share from me today. I've been playing with the lovely blue hues of the Simple Stories Heart line recently and made this page with a little story about my youngest putting on some toy glasses and pretending to be his Dad at the computer.

When I spread a title across two different parts of my page eg patterned paper and photo as in this page I try and put a solid line from the letters over the join between the two elements. It didn't work for this page and the effect of the join in the hole of my 'O' looked a little weird. So I simply took the inside of the O off the sticker sheet- and added a heart to make a feature of it.

Gallery Pick

I'm definitely a sucker for traditional Christmas colours which is one of the reasons this layout from our gallery by Jules44 caught my eye. I also love that she framed her LO- which is a great technique for helping a page to feel finished. The paper strips beside her photos look very effective and are a great way to use up scraps too! But my favourite thing about this page is the story. I love that her photos have spanned two time frames! And that the story is a then and now comparison between the Christmas tradition of her childhood and the fact that she carries it on now. The way she has split the journalling is also a great technique to show the stories are separate but part of a whole. Thanks Jules44- I'm definitely going to lift this story idea!

How much fun is this page by Deb W in our gallery the second thing that caught my eye after that gorgeous photo was that splat on the bottom of the page- such a whimsical addition. I also like Deb's Column design which is a great one to use when scrapping one photo. Thanks for sharing this cutie in our gallery Deb.

2nd Monthly Challenge ~ Scraplift yourself!

I made the page above recently using the October Afternoon Silent Night Range- (in store soon). The Diagonal line across the page is not a design I would normally use. But I did like the way this page turned out so I wanted to have a play with the design on another page.

As you can see I have turned the design 90 degrees and changed up the location of the title I think I like this one better than the first. I enjoyed scrapbooking this way because it came together fast as most of the design choices were already made for me.

So my challenge to you is to take a page you've done before and scraplift (copy) some or all of the elements of your design.

Supplies used: Bazzill Basics Cardstock, Simple Stories Heart: Forever in my heart, Elements 2, Cardstock Stickers, Washi Tape, Kaiser Mist: Yellow, Alphas: Thickers, and Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type.

Gallery Pick

My pick of the week from the Gallery is this layout by member Jazik. It's appears to be simple page but there's lots of little details. I love the use of two different size images- they are fairly similar so the size gives them a nice contrast. The little clusters of flowers are so pretty. And the use of thread hints at the parade in the background. I love the book paper and the frame and the way the colour photos pop from the black and white background. Thanks for sharing this with us Jazikt.

Gallery Pick

Donna is away this weekend sharing a lovely girls weekend with her Mum and sister- so I thought I might sneak in here and share a couple of stunning layouts that she's shared in the Mystical Gallery over the last month or so...

I loved this LO for the way that the colours pop off the black background. She's also used a lot of while and light pink here which has helped to not let the black swallow-up her photo and elements. The line of flowers sprinkled across the page draws your focus to the photo. Putting the word Ballet from the title on it's own on the black also draws attention to some important information about this memory that we can't tell from the photo.

Donna has once again gone for a black background for this LO using a large photo to help balance the visual weight. While also using lighter patterned papers again for the same reason. I love the choice she made of pink and blue as a subtle nod to the boy/girl friendship in the picture. Once again she's used flowers beautifully making choices that give the feeling of happiness without being too girly.

Great LO's Donna! It's always great to see your art works in the gallery.
