August Challenges

This Month we are all about Sketches!

Sketches are fun, and a great way to kick your mojo up a notch.  You can flip them, turn them around  or rotate them to suit your photos

Challenge 1

Hi Crafters

How is it the start of month already?

Louise here.

This month we are focusing on sketches with a side of chipboard.

"Love this Moment"

I've designed this layout and then given you this sketch to use as you are inspired.

For this layout I've been playing with

Uniquely Creative "Choose your own adventure" collection

I also needed some colour in the background ... so I pulled out watercolours

To embellish I've used lots of Cocoa Vanilla Studio "Legendary"

and topped it off with some CVS Flair buttons

For the title, I've used the Love this Moment chipboard and treated it with acrylic paint and embossing powder.

I'm looking forward to seeing your sketch inspired layouts.

Have fun creating!

Challenge 2

Good morning

Julie here with my sketch for you for this months challenge

Don't forget there is 20% off all chipboard for this month.

Here is my sketch. I have not added any embellishments or title just the basis for the layout.

I am very interested to see the different ways you come up with to make this sketch your own.

This is how I have used the sketch
You can see I have stuck to the basic layout mostly but added my own touch with embellishments and the title.

I have used Couture Creations Peaceful Peonies Collection Pack ,  Core dinations Aegean Mixed Dots and plain pink cardstock to create this page.

All of the patterned papers and cardstock have had the edges inked using a black ink cube.

The flowers to embellish the layout were cut from Paper No 6

The photos are 2 @ 3" x 5"

Starting from the bottom level of the layout (Aegean Mixed dots cardstock) and working my way up to the photos the papers and sizes are:-

Pink Cardstock - 11 1/2" x 11 1/2"
Paper No 02 - 11" x 11"
Paper No 01 - 5 1/2" x 10"
Paper No 05 - 3" x 12"
Paper No 10 - 7" x 8"
Photo mat - Coredinations Aegean Mixed Dots - 6 1/4" x 5 1/4"

The chipboard scribbly circle is from Memory Maze's Linda's Scribble & Butterflies set.
I have cut this in half and painted it with white acrylic paint.

I have also added a few tiny pink flowers and white buds to the embellishment cluster.

The title was cut from the Aegean cardstock using Kaisercraft's Upper Case dies and the leaves in the floral cluster were cut using Uniquely Creatives Little Leaf Die.

Here is the process video

I can't wait to see how you use this sketch to showcase your photos.

Hugs
Julie

June Cybercrop Challenge reveal

June Cybercrop

Hi Crafters

Louise sharing for the June Cybercrop.

Your challenge is to use multiple triangles (more than one, but as many as you like).

I started the layout as a 9x12 but added that to some black cardstock.

The washi tape was from my stash ... featuring triangles of course!

Finally I've added some triangle enamel dots.

I can't wait to see your triangle inspiration.

Happy Scrapping.

***

Good morning Julie here with my challenge to you for the June Cyber Crop.

I would like you to create a layout inspired by this sketch.

Here is my layout

I have used Cocoa Vanilla's Daydream paper range for this layout.
The background is White Cardstock
All of the papers have had the edges inked using a Kaisercraft ink cube, colour Bark.

I started by giving my Dusty Attic - Start Banner chipboard a coat of acrylic paint. The colour is Goldenrod which is a mustardy yellow. When the paint was dry I added a coat of the Gold glimmer pen from Uniquely Creative.

My 8" x 6" photo was matted on a piece of 8.25" x 6.25" coordinating cardstock

and Cocoa Vanilla - Daydream - Garden Variety to 5.5" x 10.75". I cut a fishtail into one of the narrower ends of the Garden Variety paper.

I tore two thin strips of the Stepping Stones paper

I have attached the papers using double sided tape and the chipboard using glue.

To embellish the layout I have fussy cut three flower clusters from the Garden Variety paper and items from the Cocoa Vanilla Daydream sticker sheet.

I used a bread & butter plate from my dinner set to draw the faux stitched partial circles above and below the patterned papers.

I also added faux stitching to all of the patterned papers, chipboard and sticker embellishments

The title was cut from the same cardstock I used to mat my photo using my Scan N Cut. I inked the edges, attached it to the bottom section of the layout and added faux stitching.

I have adjusted the sketch to accommodate my larger photo, I have added the torn paper at the top and bottom of the layout and I have also added the chipboard banner to the top of the layout. I moved the title to the bottom of the layout because it would look too cramped at the top with all of the other things I have added there. I also deleted the doily for the same reason.

Here is my process video if you would like to watch it.

Thank you for spending part of your day here with me today
Till next time
Stay safe
Hugs

March Challenges

This month we are playing with Fire & Ice!!

Challenge 1

Hello hello

Today I am sharing the layout I have created for the March  challenge.

As you can see the theme for this month is Fire & Ice so I have chosen to scrap some photos from our 2015 holiday to New Zealand. One of the places we visited was Tasman Glacier, so lots of ice in these photos.

My challenge for you this month is to use torn papers and the colour blue on your layout.

The torn papers on my layout are to give the impression of waves on the water.

I embossed some Navy cardstock with my Kaisercraft Diamond Tiled embossing folder and then rubbed some Art Alchemy Metallique wax over the top of the cardstock so the wax adhered to the risen sections of the card
The colour I used was White Gold
I attached a 1" strip of this to both the top and bottom of the white cardstock I used for the background.

The papers I have used for this layout are from Pink Paislee's Indigo and Ivy range

I have torn strips of paper's No 467 and 10 so they were about 1/2" wide, inked the torn edge and the two side edges and layered them at both the bottom and top of the layout, tucking each new layer under the previous one.

Another way I used the Art Alchemy Metallique Wax was on some resin pieces from my stash. I coated them with some acrylic paint to match the colours in the patterned papers then used my finger to apply the wax to the top surfaces of the resin.

A chipboard tab from Dusty Attics Mini Tabs #2 set was left in its natural state and added to the left hand edge of the top photo.

The title, which is the name of the place and the date the photos were taken was printed from my computer and attached to the back of the resin frame.

You can watch the process video here if you would like

Till next time

Stay safe
Hugs
Julie

Linen Cardstock – Bridal White

 Hi Everyone, Louise here....

For the September challenge, I'd like to see you create something with a "Vintage" theme - which should include paints/inks.

Here is my vintage inspiration

"Father"

See the video below.

This layout features:

I love to use products in different ways then they are intended so I've used the Nuvo drops like a paste and applied them through a stencil.

As the liquid was thinner than normal paste, I washed the stencil between applications.
It dries with a lovely matte finish and almost looks like it's embossed on the background.

Thanks for visiting.
Happy scrapping.

Weekend Inspiration: Embellish in a box

Have you checked out our January Challenges?

We're scrapbooking Summer this January and I used one of the new Couture Creations ranges in the store, Sunburnt Country. If you haven't seen it you should go have a look- perfect for your classic Aussie photos- travel, garden, nature, and some of your masculine pages.

The range has these great papers with a selection of boxes on them. These are really versatile- they work while on their own as part of a linear/blocked LO. They provide a great home for your journalling. The larger ones can give you the perfect spot for a title. They can double as an extra style of patterned paper. There are bits that can be fussy cut out to add to your LO's.

My favourite way to use them as a home for embellishments- I can create something quite complex and because it's all in the box it becomes another feature on my page without overwhelming the rest of the page. Here I've combined Sunburnt Country with Kaisercraft Open Road- these two lines are a perfect partnership!

If you try this I'd love to see - please come chare it on our facebook chat page.

Wednesday, 1 January 2020

Welcome to 2020!!

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and looking forward to a happy crafty new year!!

We are kicking off 2020 with some Summer inspired fun.

Our DT has 2 summer-themed challenges for you to have fun with.  As always you can scrap any type of photo you like,  just follow the challenge guidelines.

Challenge 1  - Scrap outside the colour box

Often our summer layouts are in bright colours with pink, yellow and aqua palettes. For this challenge I want you to use some non-traditional summer colours to scrap a summer story. If you haven't got a summer story you want to tell- then scrap a page using a natural based colour palette of greens, blues and browns.

Supplies Used: I have really mixed it up on this page with papers from Couture Creations ~ Sunburnt Country and Colour Blast ~ Love and Grace. I've added some stickers and die cuts from the Kaisercraft Open Road Collection as well as inking up their sweet little Gumleaf template with some bundled sage distress ink. The letter stickers are from Fancy Pants ~ What a Wonderful Day. You can find the Burlap ribbon here and my mud splatters are Kaiser Mist which 50% off in the store at the moment.

Challenge 2 - 'Summer Multiples'

As the theme is "Summer" for this months challenge #2 you will need to use the word "Summer" along with multiple photos (2 or more) for your entry.

You do not have to use the word "Summer" in the title, you could journal or it could be in the background of one of your photos. There are so many ways you could go with this challenge. I look forward to seeing your creative entries.

My list of items used is below the photos. They are all linked to the Mystical Scrapbooking online shop for quick and easy access for you.

My background has been flicked with Lindy's Gang Bavarian Blue in the Magical Shakers range then I tore strips of patterned papers from the American Crafts range of "Indigo and Ivy" and the Fancy Pants range of "What a Wonderful Day"  for some texture and along with some Core Color Card-stock. My title is Alpha Stickers from Fancy Pants and also some Kaiser-craft stamp ink, a journaling card and ephemera were used to finish off.
Please be sure to read the rules and join in and have some fun, enter more than once if you like.
I look forward to seeing your wonderful creations and most of all have "fun" creating your challenges.

November Monthly Challenges

Journaling on your pages gives scrapbook albums a bit of depth, stories that take thought and even a bit of soul searching will give your albums variety, and show future generations a side of life that photos don't always reveal.

While not every page requires the extra info, others will befit enormously, and don't be afraid to scrap the harder or less than perfect photos..... They to have their place in everyone's history.

Challenge One - Begin with a quote or phrase

Find a quote, a phrase from a song or some other special saying to start off your scrapbook journaling. As you journal, tie in your thoughts with the quote.

For my page, I've used a quote that I found on Pinterest that think go perfect for our summer
holiday photos and my journaling is on the back of my layout,  about how much I enjoy our big family Christmas holiday each year my sister and her family are over.

I've used Cocoa Vanilla Happiness papers, on black & white cardstock.  Some of Mystical's new mulberry flowers, Wooden hearts with Nuvo Drops glitter.  AC Thickers and Cocoa Vanilla alpha stickers.  Cocoa Vanilla Flair and some little word stickers from Hello Summer by Simple Stories

Challenge Two - 1, 2, or 3

Pick one, two or three of the following to inspire your journaling this month...

1. Rule lines on your page to add your journaling on.
2. Handwrite your journaling. (Mine are green- like his shirt and hard to see).
3. Write about someone: personality/traits/habits/likes/dislikes.

Supplies used: Colour Blast: Love & Grace: Effie, Cocoa Vanilla: Boys Rule: Fun & Games and Happiness Bright & Beautiful. Thickers: Glitter Foam Copper: Let's go!, Mulberry Flowers Gardenia Small: Cream and White and Blue and White, Wood Hearts, and Nuvo drops: Apple Green.

September Monthly Challenges

Welcome to our September challenges, this month we are going to be talking techniques.  We will revisit some old ones,  explore some new ones and have some fun with new takes on old techniques!

Challenge 1 -Stamp a decorative background

You can opt for a full page background or a border- just use some stamps as a feature on the backround of your page. I've added a step by step of my stamping on the Mystical Blog.

Supplies used: Bazzill Cardstock, Peacock distress ink, Kaisercraft paper: Gadget, Flowers: Green Tara: Wild Rose, Kaisercraft: Mini blooms, Title and Glitter stars: AC Thickers Glitter Sparkle, Kaisercraft Phrase sticker, Pink Paislee: Phrases, Nuvo drops black, Bakers Twine.

Challenge 2 - Paper Tearing

This old technique is a fav of mine.  I learnt this when I starting scrapping over 15 years ago, and the style was to tear along the edge of your 12x12 paper and use one 12-inch length on your page.

The modern take on it is to use multi-layers as apart of your embellishments.  Another modern/trendy take is to use large torn layers as matt's and layers under your photos and clusters.

Which is what I have done on my example page.

Product used:

Pink Paisley - Indigo & Ivy  papers and Stickers
Flowers - Mulberry Flowers, Carnations and Rose
Leaves - Green Tara Ferns
Ink -  Versa Colour, Pinecone

From my stash I've added some corrugated card, torn and inked along with some fussy cut flowers from Cocoa Vanilla range that I left over, and some wire spirals I made.

Challenge Rules
Please upload your entries to our Inlinkz link up, or to the album in our Private Facebook Chat Group by 11.55pm 30th September 2019 to be eligible for the prize.

August Challenges

This month we are embracing flowers!  Be it 'bold & bright' or 'soft & subtle' .... So let's have fun with them!

I love flowers, but having boys in my life I had to learn how to strike a nice balance,  so if you have boys too, don't' shy away from flowers,  hopefully, we can share some techniques with you during August so you can enjoy adding flowers to your pages too!

And if you have girls... let loose and have some fun!

Challenge 1 - Scraplift a favourite page.

Scrap-lifting is taking inspiration from someone else's page - There are a couple of rules when it comes to scrap-lifting.

1- ALWAYS credit the original creator
2 - Don't submit your page for publication when it's a scraplift.

I've scrap lifted a beautiful page by Nicole Doiron, I found her amazing page while browsing through the Dusty Attic's blog the other day.

You can see it here - Nicole Doiron

And here's my interpretation...

I've used Cocoa Vanilla - Boys Rule range, on black cardstock and for my flower, I've added a flair from Just Add Flair

Hope you have fun with this challenge.

Challenge 2 - Use flowers in an unexpected way.
Ideas: Use petals as balloons, use flowers for a title, deconstruct the flowers, make flowers from an unexpected material, doodle some out of this world flowers... the sky is the limit.

I've opted to use flowers on my very masculine page with diggers and a construction site. I have teamed up Green Tara Apple Blossom flowers and black maple leaves with Memory Maze Fancy Cogs inked in Copper. I've used paper and stickers from the Kaisercraft Time Machine line. My title is thickers Glitter Phrases Sparkle. I've finished my page with Kaisercraft Resin Blossoms, wooden flourish love heart,  black Jewels and Aquatic Mist nuvo glitter drops.

Challenge Rules

· Please upload your entries to our Inlinkz link up, or to the album in our Private Facebook Chat Group by 11.55pm 31st August 2019 to be eligible for the prize.

The prize is by random draw.
· International entries are welcome, however, due to international postage cost, a Creative Design Spot will be offered along with a little surprise in the post.
