Adapting a sketch

Good morning

Today I have got a layout I created using a sketch by Allison Davis. Allison has a series on YouTube where she uses one sketch and creates 5 or 6 layouts adapting that sketch to suit her photos. I find it very informative. If you would like to see how Allison has adapted this sketch you will find her video here

This is Allison's sketch

and this is my layout.
You can see I have rotated the layout one turn to the right and turned the banner strips into a Christmas tree. This idea was taken straight out of Allison's video.

To create the Christmas tree I cut strips of Colour Blast's Arty Farty patterned paper that I had left over from the other layouts I have created this month. I cut a tall triangular shape from a piece of printer paper and used that as a guide to build the tree. I trimmed each piece to length, cut a fishtail in each end and then added some machine stitching to each piece. I created more pieces than I needed to make the base layer of the tree because I wanted to foam mount several pieces on the tree to give it lots of dimension. I also inked the edges of each strip so each piece would stand out from the other.
I found another scrap and cut it to shape to use as the base of the Christmas tree. I had not stitched around this piece so I used a black pen and drew some faux stitching on it.

To create the stars for the tree top and the banner that goes across the top of the page I used my Nellie's Multiframe Star die. I cut one each of the four smallest stars to create the tree topper and nine each of the smallest and second smallest stars for the banner.
Each of these stars were inked and then layered on top of each other with a foam square between each layer.

Now let's talk about the layers of the layout.

The background is Basic Grey - Serenade - Dowager which is 12" x 12"
Next layer up is Core Colour - Mediterranean which is 10.75" x 10.75"
Next is Basic Grey - Serenade - Parlor which is 10.5" x 10.5"
The top layer is Core Colour - Mediterranean which is 9.5" x 9.5"

All of these layers were attached to each other then I stitched around the edge of them with my sewing machine.

The photos are of some of my Christmas tree decorations this year. I trimmed them down so they were a total size of 4" x 9", filed around the edge of them with an emery board and attached them vertically on the right hand side of the top layer

The Christmas tree was added along side the photos and the banner stars were added at the top of the layout.

My title is the year because I thought the content of the photos was fairly well self explanatory. I used my Die-Namics High Rise Numbers die to cut the 2020 out of the Parlor paper.

The final touch was to add Glossy Accents to all of the small stars and the title.

If you would like to see this page come together here is a video for you..

Till next time

January Cyber Crop

Welcome to our first CC for 2021!  I hope your all ready for some sketching fun!  Please share with your crafty friends...
Have fun...

Welcome to this month's Cyber Crop, Julie here with a sketch I have created for you this month. I hope you enjoy using it.

and this is my layout

I have used Colour Blast's Arty Farty paper range.

The background is Core Color Cardstock - Orange.
The photo (5.5" x 7") is matted on Core Color Cardstock - Aquarium

I used an emery board to file the edges of the photo giving it a fine white border.

Each of the patterned papers and the photo also have a black mat

I have used DecoFoil - Transfer Gel Duo through Cadence Stencil No. MU03 then set that aside to dry. Once it was dry (ie it was clear) I laid Gold Fab Foil on top and ran over it with my brayer, applying even pressure to transfer the foil to the gel.

To create my embellishments I fussy cut the Heartfelt Creations HCPC 3550 - Dahlia Bouquet that I had stamped onto a piece of the patterned paper using Versmark Embossing ink, applied Superfine Black Embossing powder and set it with my heat tool.

I also wanted to add some paper flowers, some of which were yellow daisy type flowers. To add a bit of sparkle to the daisies I applied some glue to the centres and then sprinkled them with Dress My Craft Frosted Sugar Powder.

The flowers were then added to the layout in clusters, one cluster to the top left of the photo and a smaller one to the bottom right of the photo

The title is from Memory Maze's Arrow Words - Kiss Sweet chipboard set. I have coloured it with a black permanent marker and attached it to the layout using glue

You can see the process video for this layout below

I hope I have inspired you to get crafty today.
Can't wait to see your projects

Till next time

DT Louise sharing some Uniquely Creative "Ocean Breeze" inspiration - 12x12 scrapbook layout

Hi Crafters

Louise sharing today.

I was immediately drawn to the patterns and colours of this collection.
It is perfect for those beach photos but it's also very neutral and I chose this super cute photo to feature on this page.

I love when a collection is so fabulous that it makes creating so easy.
This was one of these layouts.

A quick look through the collection and inspiration hit.

I fussy cut the florals and created lots of layers with foam.

The only thing I added was a little bit of Gold splatter

Louise December Mixed Media Inspiration - 12x12 Layout + process video

Hi Crafters

Louise with you today sharing a little bit of mixed media love.

I adore the Frosted Sugar Powder and wanted to explore some of it's uses.

So I decided to combine it with Multi Medium and  Colour Blast Shimmer Dust Peacock.

I trialed it through a stencil but couldn't get the desired effect so I ended up with a freestyle background.

I've teamed this with Fancy Pants paper and Fancy Pants tags

I like to have some form of border on my layouts so Washi tape was perfect for this.

To finish I added some Simple Stories Embellishments a bit of Gold splatter and some Sequins.

You can check out the process video here:

Happy Scrapping.

December Challenges

We have come to the last set of challenges for 2020, and what a year it's been!  Lucky we have pretty paper and crafting to keep us sane!

I hope you enjoy our last 2 challenge, and a huge thank you to everyone that joined in with all our challenges, games, and cyber crops throughout the year.
Thank you for your continuing support of my little shop, allowing me to keep my doors open during this very difficult year.
I'm so very grateful to you all.
Donna xx

Good Morning

December already...this month will fly by and it will be the end of the year already. I guess some of us can't wait and some of us are not in a hurry to see another year go by.

I hope you find some time to do some scrapbooking and enter this month's challenges.

My challenge for you this month is to use three or more photos on your layout. This should not be too hard with all of the social functions we have this month. The subject can be anything. I find that a lot of my multi-photo layouts are holiday layouts...not that we have had many of those this year.

This layout has four photos of my Grand-Daughter which were taken one evening when we were just sitting around the kitchen table.

I have used Studio 73's Mistique NightWind paper range on this layout

There are lots of interesting things on this layout. Texture/Modelling Paste, chipboard, Dimensional Magic, acrylic paints, Frosted Sugar Powder, and sprays.

Here are links to the products I have used

Studio 73 – Mistique Nightwind – Floriana

Studio 73 – Mistique Nightwind – Enchanted

Linen Cardstock – Kookaburra

Memory Maze chipboard – You Stole My Heart

Kaisercraft Paint – Dusty Pink

Dusty Attic String Frame Small Chipboard

Dress My Craft Frosted Sugar Powder

Dimensional Magic

Here is the video if you would like to have a look

Till next time

Stay safe

Hugs
